Lake Success is a village in Nassau County, New York in the United States. The population was 2,797 at the 2000 census.
   The Village of Lake Success is in the Town of North Hempstead on northwest Long Island. Lake Success was the temporary home of the United Nations from 1946-1951, with the functions housed at the headquarters of the Sperry Gyroscope Company on Marcus Avenue. Lake Success is home to the headquarters of Canon U. S. A., Inc.
   Most of the village is part of the Great Neck School District, and Great Neck South High School is located within the village limits.

Geography

The geographical position of Lake Success is (40.770354, -73.713384).
   According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.9 square miles (5.0 km²), of which, 1.9 square miles (4.9 km²) of it's land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (2.08%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there were 2,797 people, 798 households, and 683 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,487.3 people per square mile (574.4/km²). There were 824 housing units at an average density of 438.2/sq mi (169.2/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 78.94% White, 4.76% African American, 15.16% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.25% from other races, and 0.86% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.18% of the population.
   There were 798 households out of which 35.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 77.9% were married couples living together, 5.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 14.4% were non-families. 12.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.11.
   In the village the population was spread out with 20.1% under the age of 18, 4.1% from 18 to 24, 15.8% from 25 to 44, 24.3% from 45 to 64, and 35.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 52 years. For every 100 females there were 80.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 73.1 males.
   The median income for a household in the village was $134,383, and the median income for a family was $145,562. Males had a median income of $100,000 versus $46,923 for females. The per capita income for the village was $58,002. About 1.4% of families and 1.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 1.6% of those under age 18 and 3.2% of those age 65 or over.
